Hello

I am wondering if it is possible to capture data like
country
and any other filed we might use in the registration form

I seem to be able to capture name, last name, email for now
and nothing else

Is this possible at all?
Any ideas?

Thank you so much

Hi Stefano,

Yes this is possible. You can request as much info from your users as you like. To set up additional groups for the users please go to "Lists" and then click on "Manage". From here you can create new Core groups to be added to the form or you can select from Jomsocial or Community Builder groups if you are using either of those components.

Let me know if this works for you.

Hello Chris

Thanks again for the speedy answer :)

here is what I found:

I can only select the country from the CB registration fields:

And when I select and save I get the following error:

Do you think it's possible to capture for example the "city" from the CB registration fields?
Thank you!

Hi Stefano,

The maximum number of options for a group in Mailchimp is 60 and there are more than this listed in the Community Builder country options. This is why you cannot add this field. If you wanted you could create a new field in Community Builder and add 60 (or however many) countries as options and then you could allow your users to select from these countries. The same could be done for cities. The fields that you use from Community Builder can be any type apart from Text Field and Text Area.

In the future we will be adding the option to segment the campaign by country in the Send view. This is possible as the user's IP is recorded by Mailchimp when they sign up.

Hi Chris

I thought data fields like "country" or "city" would update the respective fields the mailchimp subscriber user profile, rather than creating a group.

I will play with the CB registration form and limit the number of countries allowed, and thank you for clarifying the details about what fields I can use in CB

As a curiosity: do you think there would be any use in syncing the "country" field with the mailchimp subscriber profile? is it possible at all based on the MC APIs?
I am asking as I am running a website that will have users from all over the world, I wouldn't really want to limit the number of countries to choose from, imagine a user registering and can't find their country in the list.

The feature to segment from the "Send" view is interesting, great job! :)
Thank you again

Hi Stefano,

When I go to a users profile in Mailchimp there is no place to enter city or country. It seems that these have to be set up manually as List Fields and *|MERGE|* Tags. We currently do not provide this option in joomailer but it seems like it will be necessary at somepoint in the future since calling your "Country" an interest group doesn't really make sense. So look out for this update. I'm still not sure whether or not these List Fields will allow more than 60 options though. It seems like they should as I can't imagine a user not being able to select their country!

Cheers,

Chris

Hello Chris

I also noticed that in MailChimp I had to manually create those fields, that's a bit odd
Thanks for all your clarifications and all the work
I will surely lookout for news and updates :)

cheers

Okay, it seems that List Fields can have unlimited options so we will be adding an option to create them from Joomailer, at somepoint in the future, and link them up to Community Builder or Jomsocial.

Hello Chris

I am writing as I have been playing around with Joomailer and mailchimp groups as it turns out I might need them for some other reason.

The thing is that I am unable to get the groups in the community builder registration form

The groups show up in the joomailer component and I selected them in the joomailer signup plugin, is there anything else to do?

by the way I installed latest version 1.0.9
Thanks as always
cheers

The process goes like this.

1) Create a some extra fields in Community Builder.

2) Go to Joomailer and select them.

3) The data will then be transferred from the CB signup/profile form to Mailchimp.

You only select a type in the groups form if you are using the core signup/profile forms.
