All good things come to an end
Posted by Peter Ader on 06 June 2022
I would like to thank Mailchimp for their support from the beginning and making this project possible. Without their help none of this would have happened and I am truly greatful for this.
Unfortunately the investment to provide a complex software suite like Joomlamailer for free while covering running costs and the required time for development and support, is no longer feasible for a small team like ours and therefore we had do come to the difficult decision to step away from this project. We still have plenty of things in the backlog, the upcoming Joomla 4 release was well under way and many exciting things were to happen. However, as it stands now, we can no longer recommend to use this software on production sites and discourage to do so. I am not aware of any other Joomla extension that offers even close to what Joomlamailer allows to do and I can only suggest to refer to the Mailchimp support for ideas how to close the gap between your Joomla site and Mailchimp in the future. We have tried our best to advocate for this project but did not manage to convince.
So long,
Peter
Stable release of Mailchimp v3 version
Posted by Peter Ader on 08 July 2017
The entire codebase has been evaluated and rewritten in most parts. This not only connects our product to the latest API version available and ensures the continuous stability, it also includes countless code improvements and updates to modern coding technology and standards. We are confident that this update will improve the overall performance of the software and increase the user experience.
We encourage everybody to update immediately as previous versions could stop working at any moment due to the end of life of their consumed API versions. All API versions before 3.0 have been officially declared as deprecated and no longer supported as of 31. December 2016. They are still functioning at this moment but will be disabled in the near future.
If you have any thoughts or questions or in case you come across any problems in the latest Joomlamailer version please let us know in the forums.
Mailchimp API 3.0. We're getting ready!
Posted by Peter Ader on 17 December 2016Mailchimp API 3.0
Mailchimp has rebuilt the API from the ground up and it's time to switch! joomlamailer currently relies on an older API version, which will be discontinued in the beginning of 2017. All API versions older than 3.0 will be officially declared as no longer supported by 31. December 2016. They will continue to work for some time but nobody knows how long exactly and it is strongly encouraged to upgrade as soon as possible to avoid any service interruption.
We have been working hard over the last couple of months and have revisited our code base and rewritten a large amount in order to implement the new API. We are confident that all functions are working properly at the current stage and ask everybody to try out the public release of joomlamailer 3. However, since this is a pre-release version, we recommend not to use it on production sites! Over the next couple of weeks we will be further testing, tweaking and reviewing bug reports as they come in.
Joomlamailer for Joomla! 3 has been released
Posted by Peter Ader on 31 August 2014The day has come. After many months of hard work, powering through weekends and consuming several tons of bananas, our IT chimps have accomplished the task that so many were eagerly waiting for: making Joomlamailer compatible with Joomla! 3!
We have revised every single line of the 55.000 lines Joomlamailer consists of. A large portion of the code has been rewritten and largely improved. You will notice a big improvement in regards to response times and overall usability of the admin interface.
Along with this update we are rolling out a plugin system, which allows 3rd party developers to easily extend the Joomlamailer create newsletter interface so that you will be able to select items from their components and include them in your newsletters. Components, which are already included in this versions are: Joomla core articles, K2 items, Virtuemart products as well as JomSocial profiles and discussions.
The Joomlamailer roadmap from here is focussed on adding more content plugins in the near future and making some parts of the component more robust, such as adding the newsletter checkbox and options to the front-end registration form and the user profile page. Once this is done we have a whole bunch of other improvements and great ideas on the todo list, which we are currently evaluating and assigning priorities to.
Please report any problems you come across in our forums! We would also like to hear your ideas for new features or comments of any kind.
If you like Joomlamailer we would appreciate if you leave a 5-star review in the Joomla extensions directory.
joomlamailer now available for Joomla! 1.7
Posted by Peter Ader on 22 April 2011It was a mere coincidence that the last version was called joomlamailer 1.6, but didn't work with Joomla! 1.6/1.7 yet. But joomlamailer 1.7 does, which is now available for download for those using Joomla! 1.7.
