Module Override is not working

Hi All, Thank you for a wonderful extension 
I am having a problem with overriding the module. I have copied default.php from mod_mailchimpsignup > tmpl to mytemplate > html > mod_mailchimpsignup > tmpl and made alterations but they do not appear. I have also updated the css for the module in my custom.css file (which is currently being used on the site so i know it is working) but these aren't showing either. My cache is disabled and i have tried different browsers but nothing is working.
Any ideas?
